A Working Object That Last

On this day 20 years ago, a young woman who wanted change in her life and wanted a way to help change the world, took her first step by walking into an office to get a DBA, thus Working Object was born.

Working Object Janitorial Service (WOJS) was founded on February 2, 1997 by Sarah Nunley Shoemaker. According to CNN, Sarah grew up in, “The most unequal place in America,” and Time Magazine says it is “The poorest place in America,” this is Lake Providence, Louisiana. She lived on a farm with her parents and six siblings.  She had her first job at age 3, as a water girl. When Sarah would hear the people in the field yell “water,” she would run with her bucket and cups to fill their needs.   Normally, she ended up with more water on herself than in the bucket. A hard work ethic was instilled in her at a very young age.  Several years later when Sarah was 17 years old, she moved to Houston, Texas and started working at McDonald’s. A few months later she transferred to a trucking company but ultimately was seeking a job with benefits so sadly she left. To her surprise she was quickly hired at University of Houston as a department chair secretary. In the meantime, Sarah became a beautician, but realized it just wasn’t a good fit for her. She loved her jobs, but the idea of being her own boss captivated her mind constantly. Sarah’s cousin had a janitorial company and she was very inspired to start her own.

Sarah took a leap of faith, secured her first contract, and along with her oldest daughter, they came up with the name “Working Object”.  Sarah didn’t know where this journey would take her, but she trusted God would lead and make a way.  Working Object’s mission is to make a difference one relationship at a time.  Sarah is the mother of three, two daughters and a son. In the little free time Sarah has while growing her business, she enjoys fishing, motorcycling, shopping, and traveling the world. She is very active in her church, and cherishes her monthly outings with the senior citizens, which she organizes. For the majority of the years Working Object has been in business, Sarah did all of the administrative work and cleaned in the field as well.  After graduating from the Goldman Sachs Program in December 2015, she has been empowered to become a better business owner. Today, Working Object Janitorial Service proudly employs two administrative personnel and over 20 people in the field.  WOJS not only provides janitorial services for Angel Brothers, Buckeye, Valerus and Kenyon International, but also specializes in construction cleaning, and some of our clients are J.E.Dunn, Jamail & Smith, K Austin & Associates and Balfour Beatty.

WOJS would like to thank our customers and employees for the last 20 years.
